What Android 15 Will Be Coming With

As Android 15 is around the corner (probably October), Google works hard at making a series of updates to improve the user experience, security, and functionality of OS tremendously. Here’s a look at some of the larger changes that will define the Android 15 OS experience in this upcoming upgrade.

Improved User Interface

A refreshed design will bring more customization options, including updated widgets, new app drawer features, and dynamic themes that adapt to wallpapers.

Gemini Assistant and Generative AI

But perhaps the biggest news is an introduction of Gemini Assistant-a generative AI tool that will up the game for user interactions across Android devices. Gemini will field spoken queries, understand on-screen content, and provide contextually relevant information-whether you’re using an app or watching a video.

Other new features include Circle to Search and work completely on-device, with no cloud services involved, powered by the Gemini Nano model that processes both visual and audible prompts.

These will roll out later this year to Android devices, not exclusively to Android 15.

Adaptive Vibration Control

Adaptive Vibration will be a new feature that allows for vibration intensity to be modified depending on the environment using inputs from the microphone and other sensors: for example, it will reduce vibrations on the flat surface of a desk; however, they will be more intense when, for example, a phone is between couch cushions. It will be found in Settings > Sound & vibration > Vibration & haptics.

Predictive Back Navigation

The Predictive Back feature revolutionizes ergonomic navigation by showing you in advance which app or screen you are about to go back to when swiping from the left edge of the screen. It completely removes the guessing game as to where a back gesture will get you and allows users to make much better, informed decisions regarding navigation.

App Archiving to Free Up Space

Android 15 introduces native app archiving at the system level to help the user manage storage without fear of loss of data. Users can now archive apps that are not frequently used from the app information screen by tapping on the “Archive” button. The data from the app is removed to make space, and users can download the same app again later if needed.

Color Contrast Options on the Home Screen

A new setting within Wallpaper & style will also allow the user to increase color contrast on the Home Screen to help make items – particularly those with translucent backgrounds – more distinct. Users will have a choice of Default, Medium, or High for the level of contrast, and can optionally place either a black or white background on blocks of text to help enhance visibility.

Automatically Turn Bluetooth Back On Tomorrow

A new option in the Bluetooth preferences allows for automatically turning Bluetooth back on the following day, in case it was turned off the previous day. This is handy in situations where Bluetooth has been briefly disabled for security or when on the road, and needs to be turned back on later in order to re-establish connections.

Enhanced Privacy Features

Privacy will be a focal point with tighter app permissions, improved location controls, and more transparency over how apps access and use personal data.

Better Notifications Management

More control over notifications will include advanced filtering, refined grouping, and better snoozing options.

Updated Security Features

Enhanced security measures, including stronger biometric authentication and more frequent system security updates, will provide better protection against potential threats.

Support for More File Formats and Codecs

Support for a broader range of media formats and codecs will enhance compatibility and usability for different types of media and apps.

Gaming Enhancements

New features for gamers, such as improved graphics support, lower latency, and more game-specific settings, will optimize gaming experiences on Android devices.

Android 15 is coming in October. While we don’t know an exact date yet, according to Android Authority’s source, the update may drop sometime in the middle of the month. But at least we know not to get our hopes up throughout the month of September.
