Infinix has joined the foldable smartphones market with its first flip phone: Infinix Zero Flip. Competitively priced, the Zero Flip has all chances to compete with established foldable devices and give users a really new experience for those who go into this form factor. After spending time with the device, here are my detailed impressions about everything from design to display, performance, camera, and general usability.
Design and Build Quality
First off, the Infinix Zero Flip impresses with its elegant design. My unit came in striking Ro Black color with a premium finish that feels nice to the touch. When unfolded, the phone opens up to a 6.9-inch AMOLED display for ample screen real estate. It folds into a compact 3.64-inch device when folded, easily fitting into your pocket.
The folding mechanism is sturdy: zero-gap design exudes quality. The hinge supports 30° through 150°, which makes it versatile for multiple use cases. However, opening the device requires two hands due to the strong hinge. There is a crease in the display; however, it becomes irrelevant after some time during everyday use.
Display Experience
The Zero Flip has a main display featuring a 1080 × 2640 resolution, using AMOLED technology, LTPO support, and up to a 120Hz refresh rate, peaking at 1,400 nits of brightness. All these put together create a dynamic color profile with very smooth visuals-just a charm to watch when streaming or browsing.
But the external display is no slouch either: it has Gorilla Glass protection, a 1056 x 1066 resolution, AMOLED tech, and a peak brightness of 1,100 nits. It supports quick notifications, allows shortcuts for three customizable apps, and can even interact with select apps such as TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. Compatibility issues with third-party apps can cause the occasional glitch or overheating.
Camera Performance
The Infinix Zero Flip features a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP selfie camera. Both the front and back cameras support 4K video recording at 60fps. Adding more to the casing are other features such as OIS, preview mode for framing shots, and Digital Video or DV mode that make it more interesting for photography enthusiasts.
While the camera really shines in most situations, there are some oddities with it when recording videos: frame skipping and overheating with the external display used as a viewfinder. The availability of preview mode is spotty, requiring the phone to be unlocked to activate it. These small quirks mar an otherwise fine camera experience.
Performance and Software
Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, the Infinix Zero Flip sails through day-to-day tasks with ease. Social media, browsing, and multitasking are smooth. However, the gaming performance is not up to the mark. While PUBG runs at 60fps on low settings, the device heats up quickly, affecting comfort and battery life.
Running Android 14 with Infinix’s XOS skin, the software experience is feature-rich but familiar to other Transsion devices. Two years of software updates and three years of security patches are promised – a campaign that feels decidedly short for a flagship-priced phone. Far more would be better.
Battery Life and Charging
The 4,720mAh battery supports 70W fast charging and comes with an included power brick. While this setup ensures quick recharges, the battery life is underwhelming. Heavy usage, such as gaming and recording videos, results in just four hours of screen-on time. On lighter usage, it stretches to six hours. Optimizing power usage could enhance longevity.
The Infinix Zero Flip is a decent maiden attempt at a flip phone, touting premium design, an innovative folding mechanism, and vibrant displays. However, there are a number of areas that need improvement, such as app optimization, heating issues, and limited software updates. While it is not a powerhouse for gaming, it’s a pretty versatile device for those intrigued by foldable technology.
If Infinix improves these deficiencies in the next generations, we could consider this Zero Flip series a decent competitor in the foldable smartphone market. Have you tried an Infinix Zero Flip? Share your experience in the comment box below!
